The University of Oregon's School of Journalism
and Communication honored five alumni for their innovation,
vision, and advocacy at the seventh annual Hall of Achievement banquet
on Thursday, Nov. 3 in Eugene, Ore.
The 2005 honorees are:
- Scott Bedbury, '80, author of A New Brand World, who helped develop
branding strategies for Nike, Starbucks and Coca-Cola;
- Rich Jernstedt, '69, CEO of Fleishman-Hillard International (Chicago),
who built GolinHarris International from a small, local public relations
shop into a global firm;
- Robert Reed, '49, former president and CEO of Tribune Media Services
and Reed Brennan Media Associates (Florida), who revolutionized the
syndication business;
- Jack Williams, '68, who, as an anchor for CBS-affiliate WBZ-4 in Boston,
reported on "Wednesday's Child" a weekly feature that raised
public awareness of special-needs children adoptions;
- Milly Wohler, '43, who was the first woman to hold an upper management
position with the Oregonian (Portland) and reported on what were "taboo"
issues of the time such as battered women and the women's movement.
The Hall of Achievement was established in 1998 to recognize outstanding
achievements by graduates of the University of Oregon School of Journalism
and Communication. Past recipients have included Ann Curry, co-host
of the NBC Today Show; Stephen J. Cannell, award-winning television
producer; Charles Royer, award-winning television journalist and former
mayor of Seattle; and Ed Artz, former president and CEO of Proctor and
Gamble.
