The Lives in Bloom
gala took place Saturday, May 3rd, at the Fairmont Copley in Boston.
Marci and Jack Williams were the center of attention for their work
on Wednesday's Child. The
Walker Home and School has been the recipient of grants for
years from the Jack Williams Endowment for Wednesday's Child.
About the Jack Williams Endowment
for Wednesday's Child
Rick Small, the CEO of Walker Home and
School, introduced Jack and Marci Williams on May 3,
2008, and here are a few of his quotes from that evening.
Quote #1
I can remember very
clearly the first time I ever approached Jack around how Walker
could apply for a grant from the Wednesday's Child Endowment. Jack
said he would simply talk to Marci and they would write Walker a
check. I remember saying, 'No really Jack, I understand with any
grant process there's a lot of paperwork, certificates and accreditations
I need to get to you. So, what is the full grant process?'
Jack repeated, 'No
really, Rick. We'll just send you a check.'
And that's when I
realized this was Jack and Marci, as best as I could tell, sitting
at their kitchen table deciding how to best help children. This
was literally one family helping other families.

#2
In October 2003, after
a 100-year-old pine tree fell and severely damaged the Acute Residential
Treatment facility at Walker - where some of our most vulnerable
children reside - the Williams were "first responders"
to the Walker family. They offered calls of support and they were
the first to pledge financial assistance.
Quote #3
Dr. Small presented Jack
and Marci with a book created by the children at Walker which talks
about what family means. The Williams were also given a rocking
chair as part of their award, and the chair was engraved with the
following inscription:
WALKER DISTINGUISHED
COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD
PRESENTED TO JACK AND MARCI WILLIAMS
THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNWAVERING DEVOTION TO CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
LIVES IN BLOOM GALA 2008
When presenting Jack
and Marci with the book and chair, Rick said:
We hope this chair
finds a place in your home where your family gathers and that it
reminds you of the impact you have made at Walker, and the impact
you've made in the lives of so many children and families. You are
truly a remarkable couple.
