Subject: Recognizing a foster parent
Jack,
My husband and I just adopted an adorable 2-year-old boy through
DSS. Our son had been removed from his parents' care shortly
after his (premature) birth when the parents did not adequately
care for him while he was in the hospital. After he was well
enough to be discharged from the hospital, he was placed at a
foster home (Mrs. Jean Haynes of Dorchester). Mrs. Haynes cared
for him until had progressed to the point he could be adopted,
at which time we became his foster (and recently, adoptive)
parents.
We found out that Mrs. Haynes is a true angel -- she takes in
foster children who have medical problems (some of which are
severe). She has also adopted some of these children. DSS
relies on her whenever they need to place a child who has
medical problems.
My husband and I were wondering if there is some way that
Mrs. Haynes could be recognized. What she does helps so many
children in this state!
Thank you for your time,
Shelley Rosenbaum Lipman
